Here at FACE we are always looking at introduciing new idea’s to continually keep things fresh and different as much and as regularly as possible. As you know we regularly work with different brands and dj’s from across the world and try our best to differ from one week to the next but at the same time keep to some nice consistencies, which for many reasons is an important thing too.
However, so many of you of late have been asking if we will ever be hosting the courtyard sound in the cellar from time to time. Well we can assure you that its something we’ve always wanted to do but we didnt want to confuse peoples from one week to the next or change what in effect does certainly work every single week. We know however that you all seem buzzin to be in any one of the three rooms at some point throughout the night regardless of the sound.
So then, once a month we will be introducing a new room swap concept (courtyard sound as you know it swaps with that of the cellar), where we will be showcasing new local talent, plus residents of other like minded club nights from around the globe, playing alongside our residents here at FACE. Its fair to say that its these dj’s that can truly know and work a good dancefloor, creating a great vibe amoung those that know them and those that have always liked what they are about but didnt really get much chance to see them due to the big boys taking the peak sets.
Now, we are sent an abundance of brilliant mixes from various bods but accommodating these individuals to play alongside our big line ups at FACE is tricky. So it’s gonna be mint having the courtyard dj’s and their sound playing out on that funktion one down in the cellar from time to time as there is going to be room for some wicked dj’s sets from those we know and buzz off. It’ll be a real treat! So look out for details about the first one coming in January 2012.
****NEW FACE RESIDENTS ANNOUNCED****
Also talking of local dj’s and how valid it is to have them playing in our clubs and in our cities, FACE is extremely pleased to announce our new resident dj’s - Smakpony! These guys have been killin it on dancefloors of late and we’re well looking forward to having them onboard and playing regularly for us and with us.
Smakpony are two DJʼs who are midland based and between them have almost 30 years experience in DJʼing, they came together at the start of 2011 because they share the same taste in music. There it was a simple affair with the only mission in this whole journey is to produce & entertain people with their music that people can get down to!
2011 has seen them become residents for Steve Lawlerʼs VIVa MUSiC parties in Birmingham, along with Birminghamʼs FACE at the Rainbow, where you can hear them play twice a month. Having already played guest performances at Sankeyʼs Manchester, and been booked regularly at Coventryʼs newest club Runway alongside guests such as Derrick Carter. They have forthcoming bookings at some of the countries biggest nights including VIVa MUSiCʼs Harlem Nights in London, and the forthcoming Coloursound nights in Leeds and Manchester. They have also been asked to host the official after-parties for the Coloursound brand.
The boys are hard at work in the studio, working on their debut release as SmaKPony which can be expected this winter. They took some time off there own projects to try out a remix. This was AU GO GO which was released on Darren Emersonʼs label Detone in August 2011, which was very well received. Breakout Audio label boss Darius Syrossian has asked them to play in infamous secret villa party at next years WMC in Miami… A great first year for the duo.
