Hello Again! Two posts in one day??? To be fair I’m on a caffeine rush this afternoon so I figured out I may as well take advantage of the burst of energy and catch up on my posts!
Following on from the competition reveal I mentioned that I’ll be blogging about Frock on Vintage owned by stylist Pam Cheema. I met Pam on a night out in Birmingham where she mentioned that she sold Vintage pieces, obviously been the massive spendaholic I had to give her a call. I was in search of a fur coat, and being 5’11 with abnormally long arms finding the perfect fit can be quite a chore so I got in touch wit Pam. What struck me about this was the fact that she actually came round to my apartment with an amazing selection of coats for me to try on, one would automatically assume that this coat would have cost me an absolute fortune. This however was not the case! Not only did I get an awesome sable faux fur coat from her, it was also cheaper than most that I had seen. Total bill came to £40 and she even threw in an antique pearl brooch which to me was just amazing. I mean I’ve worked in retail since I was 16 ( Yes, I do have a job) even though some would argue I only work for the discount which isn’t far from the truth, but it was this level of care that drew me to Pam.
A few months later Pam got in touch and told me she was opening up a store in the trendy Zellig building located in the Custard Factory, this was just excellent news ( another excuse to spend more money). I was obviously pleased, and there it was Frock on Vintage Boutique was born!!.
This week FACE Likes… Frock on Vintage.
Like many of us Pam Cheema is a University Graduate who pursued a professional career, landing what some would say was an awesome graduate job working for the BBC and Channel 4 respectively as a freelance TV researcher, but her love and passion for fashion could not be ignored and in 2008 Frock on Vintage was born.
Since its birth, Frock on Vintage has distinguished itself from many Vintage stores in Birmingham and around the country. Frock on Vintage is an appointment only boutique which provides its customers with a truly unique and luxurious experience ( Picture Personal shopping at Selfridges or Harvey Nichs) but at an affordable price.
This unique concept allows Pam to focus on each client, establishing their needs and using her styling abilities to ensure that every client is guaranteed to return. Speaking to Pam, I asked her what her main aim was with the business and what I didn’t expect was the truly humble response I received. ” I just want to provide affordable, high-quality, and all round vintage clothing to the fun loving fashionistas”, she said. For someone who can boast of an ever growing celebrity clientele, with the likes of Kerrang DJ Kate Lawler and MTV News Presenter Alice Levine already on her books. She recently worked along side my fashion indulgence Gok Wan ( How to look good), this seems like a real treat for the Vintage forward Birmingham scene.
The amount of thought Pam has put into this is absolutely commendable, from the wood flooring deco to the granddad leather arm chair sitting comfortably on the corner,or even the circa 50′s telephone carefully mounted on a rusty side table you are instantly treated to an experience.Having raided her store a few times, I have had a few fashion orgasms ( the only one I’m having these days) I’m always pleasantly surprised by how affordable her pieces are with prices of a top starting at £15. I now own a faux fur coat, an antique crucifix necklace, a gold and black sequin embellished top and a crop shirt all from her boutique for less than £200.
So ladies or gentlemen (that is if you have a penchant for dressing up as a girl) I think it is time you all booked an appointment and checked out this hidden gem. If you are easily excited by beautiful things, and you find the idea of going through Vintage rails only to be left disappointed slightly strenuous then Frock on Vintage is the place you need to be.Whether you are looking for that one-off party dress (seeing everyone is getting hitched) or festival outfits (glastonbury is soon upon us) you will find something at the FON Studio.
Also if you don’t like shopping with friends because you are fully aware that your girl friends cannot be trusted simply because they will tell you that the dreadful jumper you’re so eager to buy is “oooohhh so granny chic” which often is B.S then at least you’ve got Pam to help you out with making those decisions.
Here are some pictures of some of the awesome little things that you can find in her boutique. Don’t worry you can thank me later! But on behalf of every clothes lover in Brum thank you Pam Cheema for gifting us with this.
FON have also decided to let our FACE readers get in on the action and there is a little treat for the next competition which I will be posting tomorrow, so keep you eyes peeled.
